Chia Harvest Weather Update

WHY WEATHER MONITORING MATTERS?

After cutting, chia seeds lying in the field are vulnerable to moisture. Extended wet periods — particularly several consecutive rainy days combined with poor drying conditions — increase the risk of mould and elevated free fatty acid (FFA) values. Critically, the risk isn't limited to quality degradation: in severe cases, prolonged wet conditions can lead to a total loss of the harvest still lying in the field.

Risk is only elevated when both factors align unfavourably at the same time. A brief rain shower followed by strong sunshine and wind is typically uncritical. What matters is the combination of moisture load and drying capacity over the 7-day harvest window.

CURRENT RISK OVERVIEW - 8 GROWING REGIONS

Our weekly monitoring currently shows elevated to high risk across all nine of Paraguay's growing regions — a clear signal to stay attentive, but no cause for concern.

The areas seeing the most impact are Amambay, Caaguazú, Caazapá, and San Pedro, at the center of the recent rain system, where the extra moisture means the crop is simply taking a bit longer to dry out. Canindeyú, Concepción, Boquerón, Alto Paraná, and Misiones are in a somewhat calmer spot, though we're keeping an eye on them too.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOUR ORDER?

The good news: sunshine hours remain strong on most days, and we expect drying conditions to improve again over the coming days. We're monitoring every zone closely and will follow up as soon as things ease.
